Last year, I had seen the first promo. I thought this is a foreign film or something. But, when I heard that the film is written and directed by an Indian guy, I started reading about what exactly the title means and all related to it. Lots of questions arise. When I get a chance to see this film? Is this a big change in Indian Cinema?  Now, wait is over. With UTV motion pictures, Kiran Rao presents the film which hits first in metro cities.

The movie starts with a written explanation of the paradox of Ship of Theseus and extends it to its own benefits. And then we are presented with three stories – A blind photographer who uses intuition to capture black and white photographs, a monk who is fighting for animal rights and an ordinary man who investigates his own kidney transplant. So, I am not here to discuss the story because the stories are not as important as their treatment on screen and mainly it is available on the internet.

A ship, whose every part has been replaced plank by plank, remain the same ship in the end? This type of philosophical paradox is even difficult to understand on paper. Just imagine, how can you put this type of paradox on screen with stunning visuals? Gandhi gives a beautiful treatment to this paradox with his cinematographer (Pankaj Kumar).  Each and every frame tells you something about the concept of the film like opening scene of a blinking eye, wide frame landscape shot of Himalayas, a monk walking in rain and many more.

In search of finding this paradox, Gandhi takes us to the deep inside the minds through three protagonists. A blind photographer named Aliya played by Aida El-Kashef has portrait beautiful character. You can see the transformation from an energetic and healthy to an ailing stick-bodied monk (Neeraj Kabi) who standing upon his beliefs. Sohum Shah as a broker brings the kindness to his character.

This is not movie which entertains you except the last story of kidney transplant. But, the first two stories is totally piece of art. If you are true movie lover then I’m sure you will not miss this gem.  I’ve seen many satisfy people in theaters who were sitting silently even after the climax. I didn’t want to go out of this paradox. My mind is still mesmerizing those moments, those frames.

Thought provoking, brilliant, emotional, intellectual … I do not have enough words to describe this. Go and experience the best cinema.
